Recovering Australia

MAKE AUSTRALIA GROUSE AGAIN? A nation that knows some True Stories is in a good position to dream up it's own future.

A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION: It is an amazing time for the creative industry sector  and AN AMAZING TIME FOR US. BRINDLE STYLE IS CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS OF NEW-MEDIA PRODUCTION AND RESEARCH. REMAINING UNFUNDED, UNAFFILIATED and 100% UNPROFESSIONAL for two decades and REACHING millions of people.

Between digital storage systems and transnational economics there has been a great forgetting. Fortunately within our communties remains the stories of solidarity, comradeship and fellowship that are a natural result of fallas living and working TOGETHER. Black, White and Brindle.  Shared stories. Working class stories. - Maria Lesley Tonks (Aotearoa)

NOT EVERY AUSTRALIAN is a racist dog by the 1960s and 1970s  Even in the regional areas. Even in places that voted NO in the 1967 referendum to end policies of assimilationism.  Even in Western Australia over 80% of the population voted YES to what is essentially recognition.

Policy makers continue to dredge that shit up again and again as globalisation shows it's fangs. And that's a very reasonable stance to make, in asmuch that Australia needs to reExamine and reCognise it's OWN IDENTITY, amid 40 years of transnational conglomeration.

Global economics doesn't care if you're black white or brindle EITHER.

LET'S GET REAL ABOUT EDUCATION, INNOVATION, PRODUCTIVITY, CREATIVITY & EMPLOYMENT.  SOCIAL INNOVATION DIALOGUE AND CULTURAL MAPPING - A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION.

NORMA McCarthy: "WHAT ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN?"

Maiia: "Australian? BAH! There was never going to BE an Australia.  It was a con an' I don't mean CONVICT! They brought you criminal mob out to Australia as labour because slavery was (more or less) illegal.  And automation was still an industrialists dream.

A larrikin conversation, a GREAT BIG STIR. A fairly amusing argument with a fairly amusing, argumentative Australian elder. Years later however, what the outsider and visionary artist Norma mcCarthy was observing about a disappearing Australia, makes a lot more sense.  It pairs with the "ReCOGNITION" idea - only it's the White Falla who needs to re-examine history and cultural identity.

"The people who do not cultivate their memory will never be able to construct their own history and will lack independence and sovereignty. They will not be able to interpret their past, confront the present or project their future." - Tupac Amaru II (1738 -1781) A leader in the Peruvian struggle for independence.

***************************************************

Millions of ordinary people were written out of their own history by consolidated media ownership. The disappearing Australian wandered off into the sunset - hand in hand with the Labour Party.  Australia died with the Whitlam government.  You just couldn't tell something had changed because Royal weddings were still on tele and the cover of the now defunct Australian Women's Weekly.  (Gentrification in the form of America's "Better Homes and Gardens" now takes the crown of biggest selling magazine in Australia)

The Disappearing Australian, wandered off into the sunset, hand in hand with the Labour Party!  In both Australia and in England.  Haha - the disappearance of ENGLAND itself? Well that is a story one for another day.  RECOVERING AUSTRALIA.
