In 2000, advertisements by Adbusters promoting Buy Nothing Day were denied advertising time by almost all major television networks except for CNN. Campaigns started appearing in the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, the Netherlands, France, Norway and Sweden. Cartoonist -Robert Crumb on 'culture': "It's pathetic, it's pitiful. The whole culture is one unified field of bought sold market researched everything -you know. It used to be that people fermented their own culture, you know it took hundreds of years, and evolved over time. That's gone in America. People now don't even have any concept that there ever was a culture outside of this thing that's created to make money.... you just get disgusted with humanity after a while for not having more you know - intellectual curiosity about what's behind all this jive bullshit."
