Maiia: I like the idea of a centring space and building  upon, always honouring those who go before as we co-create.   There were hearts and these potato heads already painted - so the space has a sense of heart and harvest festival from the outset

When Cairns North was new, The Green Room was a tool/ garden shed, a cross-tooth saw hangs from the rafters to this day.  Days of building stuff out of whatever's around.  Big fat trees in their case, recycled materals and found objects in our time.    

 

The space is cosy for speaking, rehearsing, thinking and reading, prayer and meditation.     Day and Night usage.   Digger Poetry & Stream of Consciousness

 

Design incorporates collage from donated magazines.  Because they were food and travel pics it helps illustrate the seasonal nature and cultural art of food in relationship with festivity throughout the world.   Organic Growing

 

 

On occasions the fluoro and rainbow themes can be exaggerated to create a psychedelic effect reminiscent of the hippy, earth, heart-centred ideas of the past hundred years. And even before.

 

An interesting Digger perspective is leaving space for the community and participants to evolve in days to come.  

Creating space that is flexible to a variety of uses as seasons, residents, artists,  representatives, visitors and priorities  change throughout a year.

Mid-year Australia's  tropical  winter is festive season in Far North Queensland.  The Green Room uses the open door into the 'real' world of place and community events that happen during tourist season and into the spring (right)

 

Festival of Cairns  Reggaetown  and Cafnec's Envirofiesta leadus into the "wet" season (summer) which finds us indoors from the heat as surely as snow in the northern hemisphere.
