Warrior Spirit
Warrior spirit weaves light into Shadow

My Nannny used to speak of old Nanny - a Traditional Woman, with her moko in the modern era, her refusal to speak English. Old Nanny lived for 112 years.  1860s to 1970s -through times of profound change in Aotearoa.
The moral compass of the true warrior is ability to navigate from the heart.

The Warrior Principle - In the Anglo-Celtic tradition...

This is the painting that made me an artist!  Well, once upon a time a young warrior took his own life.  Passed along a legacy of grief as big as his own. The shock of hearing about it - really jarred me.  Really brought home the facts of life and death in this community, this paradise of Cairns in tropical Australia.  This insurmountable grief the high-rise, the 'economic development', the pillage is built upon.
Brindle Style - You CAN Do It
Dawn, New Beginnings, and Wild Growth.  Fire that boils hot tea on a cold night.
Warmth that sparks transformation  transcendence and resurrection.

Maiia; It began all happy happy joy joy.  Some happy sun-flowers.   Which helps illustrate the observation I make about there being little enough of Me in a painting.  There are no sunflowers in the finished piece, the Tower theme of the tarot came and went too, but a hint of that remains of a few bricks in the wall.  In some way the works design themselves.
Finding a way to TRANSFORMATION
Finding a way to redemption, destiny and creative problem solving is a very relevant narrative here.  The painting considers some heavy subjects, like suicide, grief, and resurrection.   How do we find light, air, and positivity, to feed the  warrior spirit. Brindle Style - Humour The last thing I did was put up the cobalt sky and invigorate the plant form to abundance.

Maiia: I guess Justice is made manifest when women and families can go about their day, walk the souls path to destiny - undisturbed by injustice... painting (right)
One face appeared in the smoke and ashes of a fallen tower construct.  Looking like a Maori warrior...      Cut out pictures of paintings, collaged on the fridge door  started me thinking about the warrior spirit.  Paintings by Goldie My old people - Pakeha and Maori, and their knowedge of how to fix things and make things. Pre-modern arts of manifestation and healing.

So I'm thinking of colonial history, the significance of lore, as well as law ,in the delivery of Justice. The role of craftspeople in documentation of truth - that law is based upon.
And more faces begin to appear as Im thinking... whatsmore they're young- THE WARROR SPIRIT IS AGELESS & ETERNAL.  I would  have expected warrior spirit old and wise, bit of a Merlin with a long white beard. But no.  The honourable protector of justice has no age. So its a redemption song, a resurrection story.
I've seen trees smoulder for days but boomp - you see the bright green   spring up again.  As the Europeans see the spring return from snow.                                               Green Dragon -similar theme
