An exciting show at Tanks art Centre
Amanda Barlow & Michael Barlow
2 - 17 October 2008
"The aim of this exhibition is to promote our culture, our heritage and our story.
As Indigenous Australians of the Wahjinburra clan, we are honoured to share our
history and our stories through our art as passed down by our ancestors. Just like
the Story of the Eel, the Yidinji people knew how to adapt and survive with the
changing climate. The Yidinji culture is rich and fascinating with its myths,
legends and cultural beliefs. The Wahjinburra people are rainforest people, strong
and proud of their country. Many of our paintings depict the foods eaten, the values
we hold and the experiences we have endured throughout history."
Amanda Barlow will also launch her book, Our Generational History, with this
exhibition, using the storytelling of the Yidinji people's last 200 years since
settlement to further augment the message of her paintings."
