w cottons, linen and silks get flogged every decade - beautiful to wear, nice to look at - a pain in the arse to care for, so - into the op-shops. Nasty nylon - will wash an' wear and the labour movement can't say - do you realise that cotton was picked by slaves? Or stitched in sweated workshops? OMG. But you'll be the sweated one in this climate - that's nasty alright. Our favourite answer is trade among friends or buy second hand.
