RANT -March 2012

Australia today reminds of Wellington in the late 70s early 80s.  Possibly more sexist, as the kiwi lesbians back then leant a room some serious presence.

What a load of bullshit been goin' on this last 6 months. Never heard so many ignorant boys talk such self-indulgent shit in 30 years... that's why I dropped out of participation in live community forums during the 80s - adding the internet well it's just more of the same.

Egotism - I watch the cycle of stupidity go round and round.  Every decade a new generation of big-noters rises to the surface and talks loud on matters they know nothing about, they posture and pose and pretend to be wisemen for all manner of status and admiration.

KONY is up to 107 million views - I have managed to get ONE like for a local woman who runs a self-funding medical clinic, meanwhile local teens are caught up in play occuring between content, a culture of consumption, emotion and action - but they don't even know where Uganda is or any history of why the region has developed as it has.

We appear to need hierarchal power structures as people are reactive and ignorant.  But that doesn't work as they become corrupted.

It's all so bloomin' tricky from a real independent media point of view. Although the term Cairns Indy-media comes from leftist side of the press.  I've seen enough of their dogma where it aligns with bureacracy and mediocre designs of self importance.

Cairns is having what I call a 2nd wave invasion, all these smart-arses turning up with the same attitudes as the first lot.  If they had guns they'd use them.  Some of them are spies, some of them need mental health support, pretty much all of them are on the take. Some of them are nice but so naiive as to be a danger to everyone else.  One dear young Murri politician dropped out of the local elections this week as someone came to his house and threatened him if he did not... and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The suicides and the funerals are never ending now I'm the age of the 'gap' - the life expectancy disparity thing my black friends are dropping off the perch...  the common ground in tropical Australia is so controlled yet the societies in regional areas are a mess.  Yet the same systems keep pushing for power without realising the push for power is the root of the problems.

Particularly America keeps expanding it's presence in the region, one way or another - but better out than in aey.- imagine my shock 40 years on to find my kids getting a worse education in QLD now than what I did as a girl.  5 years ago my sons text book included the unforgettable "The indigenous people lived in our rainforest"  three lies in the one sentence...We had the bicentennial in 1969, even the Pakeha had their oral history and found the European processes wasteful, irrelevant and outdated right back then - it was hardcore assimilation but lines were drawn on how far to push empire.  What we didn't know was America was about to introduce a new cultural imperialism through television... and now 'games' what a mess... it starts out sugar coated promises, before it deteriates into degradation and exploitation... The light in the southern hemisphere seems to be that it doesn't matter how the 'frontier' lands are exploited just the limitations of the prevailing belief that there are only 3 ways to make money.  Mining, military expansionism and eco-tourism.  Military tourism there's an unsavoury thought for Cairns...QLD in general and NT.   If we did say no to uranium exports... would they just take it anyway?  Meanwhile the living dead rub their greedy hands together and jostle good-naturedly amongst themselves for position in an illusory world - War what is it good for- making money!  Hopefully I am all wrong!  My suspicion is if we have no face/voice/presence black white and brindle - we'll be bulldozed like the rainforests

1984 - First observation of Australia:  Racists put people like me in the headlines cause heads on stakes is against the law... hence the development of a region without slavery and aparthied as it was for the earlier colonies and mainland Australia and capital cities is something to celebrate.  But the outsiders don't know this...      There's a Ribbon in the Sky

Narrative Behind the Image
"This candle is really going to be burning for the joy that we've experienced in the past, the sorrows and pains of the past, for the joys that we've experienced today and are experiencing today in those sorrows and pains and the energies of love and positivity of all those times as we burn a candle for tomorrow" - Stevie Wonder -Detroit 1984.

A meditation on past present and future. Good times and good living in a post-colonial diaspora. Carrying not the cold of northern Europe but 'a candle for tomorrow"
