Nobodys & Somebodys. Divisive & Inclusive. Equality Elitism & Self
Determination
* The name Brindle Style - is partly humour in reclaiming a
slang term & a knowing from as young as six - a natural place in
2004 - first criticism from 'white' * readers. An Indigenous section appearing divisive rather than inclusive.
Arguments assimilationist, and disturbing to me. Bringing back memories from personal experience of the racist, classist and sexist 1960s. The point they were looking for was Self-determination
2009- has brought even more repellant wording -still with good intention - and genuine emotion, this time regarding the importance to Indigenous communities of recognising intellectual property rights in law.
Maiia HOWEVER... -As well as the Golden Rule of Respect -the Good Books tells us to honour our Elders.
That means my mother, and grandmothers - not only the 'white'
ones. And not only my blood-lines but in respect for the hearts
supporting me on a daily basis especially in coming to terms with identity being of mixed European and Indigenous heritage.
I became aware that passively resisting becoming morally corrupt, inadvertantly served the forces of oppression, - I don't mind cleaning toilets but- whatever other humble gifts I may have been given remained largely unused.
I just saw adding the Matthew Fox clip below... Thomas Aquinas called non-participation-
Nobodys and Somebodys alike... As an artist and photographer for over 20 years the importance of
recognition; authentic and positive representation to self-esteem and
cultural identity and documentating existance - was
obvious.
(nobody's as well as these supposed somebodys who makes us proud and represented)
In 2002 Brindle
Style newsletter began as occasional collections of community photos. Murdoch was the main media source
in Cairns, infamous for misrepresentation, or failure to represent at all, the faces, voices and especially the intellect of 'ordinary' Australia. White, Black & Brindle.
2008 Greenman Exhibition - aims to highlight several points including the existance of white Indigenous culture - preceding Australian 'colonisation' by hundreds/ 1000s of years.
The ancient knowledge appears in art, literature, music and dance traditions. Going right back to the pan-theism of the Ancient Greeks and Romans and more recent links in Irish/ Anglo-Celtic ancestoral traditions.
Hence there is no need to search and fulfill the genuine hunger for authentic cultural and spiritual identity among those of European heritage - in the intellectual property traditions of other Indigenous peoples. Even if your feet walk on the soil of these nations.
Creation Theology
One of the great modern philosophers recognising the fundamental need for authentic spirituality in folk is Rev Dr Matthew Fox who's work is becoming increasingly available thanks to the internet.
