Peacock
The peacock does not attempt to put on other peoples eyes.  Or play with mirrors, or try to find a spotlight to gain maximum lustre.  He just Is.

False Pride - Real pride - Original Innocence
if peacock were an instrument it would be the tenor sax...

Identity and authenticity...
Identity with which to practise authentic self-expression.  Green of the heart, blue of self- expression, indigo of intuition and the violet of higher knowledge... all them arty hippy tones.

Gotta love the 'pizazz' that life-style psycholgist Csikszentmihalyi talks about, all that really glitters and sparkles of life is naturally wonderful

Pizzazz turns to razzamatazz, that brings in the bux, then the hullabaloo starts. Ideas become commodities. Commodities are seldom self-expression - mere cyce of currency

Let me see ya shake your tail-feather...

Beginning simply with an elegant form I saw in the four large feathers.  Early stages of painting the peacock is not yet manifest. Only the four feathers  my mentor Norma McCarthy saw it as      'the scream'

I explore the simple creature of original innocence. The scream as the expression of unmet social and psychological needs for recognition, validation and respect.

The female bird isn't even blue an' purple.   The peacock doesn't stare back at his own tail. Or go chasing it to check what other people may or may not see- what a tangled web that is- specially during mating season.  Potential mates love some pizazz but peacock goes about the day, in a natural fashion. THE GREENMAN

The genisis of this painting is real pride... Mana

The peacock feather is used symbolically in many cultures through history. Sometimes to symbolise the eyes. I suggest we use kindly eyes of non-judgement.
There's an Amnesty international concert celebrating the Declaration of Human Rights, where the Delai Lama is unfamiliar with the concept low self-esteem. He says- the idea is "sad"
