We keep hearing great stuff happening - Batchelor, Northern Territory (near Darwin) An indigenous learning environment, welcoming and creative place to do tertiary study .
June 2009: Maiia: Just lately I've been hearing lots about the projects coming from Batchelor. Especially the Linguistics department which has a powerful Cairns, Cape York and Queensland input.

International visitors ... North Queensland (tropical Australia) is all these areas, and nations, with different languages (and cultures/and history) like in Europe there's England, EIreland and France, Cymru Wales etc.
In New Zealand, a wānanga provides education in a Maori cultural context. Similar in many ways to mainstream universities. Currently, wānanga offer certificates, diplomas, and Bachelor degrees, and some programmes in specialized areas through the Doctoral level.
In traditional times wānanga conveyed meanings related to highly evolved knowledge, lore, organisation, cultural and spiritual arts, and also 'forum' in the sense of a discussion to arrive at deeper understanding. - my interpretation... of wikipedia
