God's Trouble Makers

HOW WOMEN OF FAITH ARE CHANGING THE WORLD  KATHERINE RHODES HENDERSON

Continuum Publishing

"Once I believed that you worked with the poor and the hell with the rest.  Now I believe that you must work not with the rich alone, but with communities... and bring those communities into dialogue with each other."

"WELL NAMED VISIONS OF REALITY ARE POTENTIALLY THE FOOD OF GREATER CONSCIOUSNESS."

Maiia:  The women in this book come from a variety of faith backgrounds.  Some of them do not consider themselves religious at all.   A fascinating, empowering and inspiring look at 20 women doing notable public work. Lol -  "Socio-ethical Entrepreneurs"  women who have founded organisations to respond to the needs of community.  Particularly in the areas of advocacy, peace and social justice.

Chapter One   "Silence is an Act"

"How do you create a life of meaning.  What motivates people to try to change the world?  When faced with injustice, why do some people walk away, while others stop respond and act?  Does one individuals's life matter?  How can one person be a force for good?  What if anything has God got to do with it?

Maiia: I enjoyed Chapter Four on the womens leadership style.

Which helps clarify moves toward pluralism, inclusion and interdependence.

"Leading from Behind Within and Beneath" -"Many of these women were first drawn into the work because an intuition or moral conviction about what was right - that children need shelter and food etc"

"They chose to step into uncharted territory, fueled by a desire to incarnate an image of how the world could be.'

NOW DARING TO BEHAVE WHAT THEY BELIEVE, THEY HAVE BEGUN TO BRING BITS OF THIS COULD-BE WORLD TO LIFE.
