Critical Thinking Active Listening
Closed-ended questioning as it is called invites a short or one word answer - like yes and no answers.
Open ended questioning invites the person to open up and share their experience, knowledge or feelings about a subject. Beginning with words like What, why, how, describe, tell me about,
For example "How are you feeling?" or Why are you upset?" encourages the person to share. "Are you alright?" can be answered with yes or no.
